KAP7 Australia, Water Polo Australia and Game on Recycling Partnership

Game on Recycling is a pilot program that aims to create a national recycling scheme for sports equipment. That means rather than being thrown into landfills, tennis balls, basketballs, snowsports and many other types of equipment will be recycled.

What this means for Water Polo?

Collection sites are being established around Australia to collect old and unwanted sporting equipment.

  • Items that can be reused and put back into circulation, thereby extending the life of the product; or
  • Items that have well and truly come to the end of their life and need to be recycled.

Re-use items will be made available to various community clubs, groups, institutions and organisations, alleviating the costs of purchasing new equipment. Items destined for recycling will be granulated and research undertaken to identify the value in the materials for manufacturing various products, including soft fall matting.

KAP7 Deal

To celebrate the launch of this pilot recycling program KAP7 Australia is providing a free return shipping label for old balls with ANY new ball purchase from now until March 15th.

Whether you purchase one ball or 30 balls we encourage everyone to recycle their old balls!

Why was game on recycling created?

Where does old sporting equipment go when we’ve finished playing with them? Unfortunately, most currently end up in landfills.

We pride ourselves on being a sporting nation. Over 2.5 million Australians participate in tennis, basketball and snowsports. These activities are fun and keep us healthy. Large volumes of sporting equipment are required each year to support our sporting passions, including an estimated:

10 million tennis balls

2 million basketballs

1000t of snowsports gear

Unfortunately, these unloved, lonely and unwanted items are discarded into landfills when they are no longer needed. There they cause problems with our ecosystems and the bio-diversity that surrounds them.

Don’t these items that have given us so much joy and happiness deserve a better fate? Don’t they deserve the opportunity to contribute positively to the world and our lives?

That’s why we need a new solution that will rescue these items from a dreadful fate and put them to better use for the sake of the planet and our health.
